It turns out that the Fletcher Broome house has many secrets which need to be unveiled. Yesterday, Lynn and I were paid a visit by several of the family members that grew up in the house. We quickly realized that this old house has A LOT of stories tell; more on that later. Two key facts were revealed to us by the family members today.
- The entire house was built in 1901. We had guessed that the house was built in at least 2 stages (the main 4-square and then the rectangular addition to the back). However, a 94-year-old neighbor recalls that it has always been in its current state.
- Since the entire house was built at once, it means that ALL of the ceilings in the are 12 feet high. We need only remove the false ceilings ( which are 8 ft) in 2 rooms. This should save some $$ and restore the original character of the house.
Lynn and I can’t fully express how very exciting yesterday was. It was a bit like playing history detective! Stay tuned for the next episode. I promise there is more to come.
I am intirgued. Can’t wait what is in the next episode. Nice to learn more about the house.
There is so much more to tell. I’ll keep posting. Next time you come down, we will go out to house.
First of all congrats! The house looks awesome. Looks like its really progressing. You two amaze me! How you are managing this, working, 3 kids, tennis lessons, cubscouts etc., is beyond me. Its gotta be love! LOL
Let me know if I can come help I have a little time during some days and I am sorta of a Mrs. Fix it. 🙂 (A dream of mine was to renovate an old house on my own, maybe someday…..).
